My fashion illustration of an Alexander McQueen Couture piece from his AW09 collection.
Inspired by recycling and trash, this was one of his iconic pieces from that season.
Hand rendered with fineliners and edited with Photoshop.

Sewing the collection for A French Fetish AW'13

 Garment 1:

Inspired by the sex appeal of the parties and the opposing demure expectations of women.

Ivory tulle and gold lace hand sewn over the bust and cascading down toward the back. 

Gathered tulle skirt starting from the hip line.

 Garment 2:

Inspired by the hairstyles of Marie Antoinette and her fearless attitude towards fashion.

Claret taffeta pencil skirt with a silk halter top covered in gathered strips of ivory tulle creating a "birds feathered chest" of fabric.

 Garment 3:

Inspired by the femininity of the silhouettes from the time period.

My own printed textile on cotton silk in a snug pencil dress with a low back and ending at the knee.

 Garment 4:

Inspired by the silhouette of the fashions in that time period, but updated for modern day living.

The same printed fabric on cotton silk forms a strapless, boned bust and forming a low-V at the back.

Claret taffeta gives an ease to the skirt and great movement in this 50's circle skirt.

 

 Garment 5:

My finale piece. 

Using my own printed textile on cotton silk in a rich purple and gold and a hand embroidered bodice with over 1000 crystals and 1500m of gold thread that took over 8 months to complete.

Fitted bust with a hand draped skirt of 6 meters of silk fabric, creating a silhouette more inspired by Marie Antoinette herself.

 

Design Boards for A French Fetish AW13

My graduate collection inspired by a visit to the Palace of Versailles in 2012. 

Using my own photos, I was able to design my own textile to inspire the rest of my collection. Drawing inspiration from the fun and frivolity of the parties that used to take place at the Palace, I aimed to capture the sex appeal, royalty and fashion of Versailles at the time of Marie Antoinette.
